VOTY 2019

Volunteer of the Year is our end of year celebration of all the great work our local nonprofits and volunteers accomplish! This year’s event will be hosted at Ballad Brewing in the heart of the River District on the evening of December 16th, 2019 from 5:30-7PM.

The Volunteer of the Year program welcomes community nominations of individuals who embody the spirit of volunteerism and who give back to their community. After the nomination period concludes, there is a community wide vote and a committee selection process to determine the two Volunteer of the Year award recipient winners. The volunteer winners will then have a gift package donated in their name to the local nonprofit of their choice (see the rules and prizes tab for details). In order to emphasize the gift all volunteers give, the event is also a recognition ceremony for all nominees, and a time to recognize the nonprofit organizations themselves for the impact they have on our region. Let us know you’ll be joining us by responding to our Facebook event page!

Nominations: Nominations were accepted until Wednesday, December 4th at 11:59PM (Keep in mind that voting will begin on Wednesday, November 27th at 9:00AM – get your nominations in early to ensure they can get the most votes possible!)

Voting: Voting closed on December 11th. We held our celebration event on Monday, December 16th from 5:30-7PM! Thank you to everyone that attended!

Results:

Volunteer of the Year 2019 Public Vote Selected Winner
Recipient: Trina Holiness-Morris
Winner will designate the following gifts to their selected nonprofit organization of choice serving the Dan River Region area (Danville City, Pittsylvania County, Caswell County):

  • One year free organizational membership to the Dan River Nonprofit Network
  • A free one hour organizational consultation with River District Consultants
  • A monetary amount of $350 donated in their name

Jean’s award was split between the Thomas Day House & Union Tavern (organizational membership, consultation benefits, and free training) a nonprofit in Milton, NC with a mission to preserve the legacy of free black cabinetmaker, Thomas Day; and with the Community Foundation of the Dan River Region (the financial award, which she dedicated to the Claudia Vernon Smith Fund to support the education of youth in Caswell County).

Trina’s award package was donated to I AM S.A.R.A.H. – an organization that works to impact and inspire all women to equip themselves with the life tools for growth and success.

The winning nominees will also receive a gift basket for their personal use.
