Who Should Attend:
This workshop is tailored for nonprofit staff and board members, particularly those involved in the nominating committee, executive committee, and anyone responsible for board member orientation and onboarding.
Workshop Objectives:
- Understand the Significance of Board Orientation: Participants will learn about the vital role of board orientation in aligning board members’ values with the organization’s mission, vision, and goals, and processes.
- Identify Key Components of Effective Onboarding: Attendees will gain insights into the essential elements of a comprehensive onboarding process. From board governance and legal responsibilities to understanding the nonprofit’s financials and programmatic activities, this workshop will highlight the critical aspects of integrating new board members seamlessly.
- Craft Your Customized “Board Binder”: Participants will be guided through creating their personalized “Board Binder” – a valuable resource toolkit that each organization can customize according to their specific needs, culture, and strategic priorities. The binder will include essential documents, templates, and reference materials to support board members throughout their tenure.
Workshop Format:
The workshop will be a dynamic and interactive session, combining informative presentations, group discussions, and hands-on activities. Participants will have the opportunity to collaborate with peers from different nonprofit organizations, allowing them to learn from one another’s experiences and leading practices.

Thursday, September 21st from 9AM – 11AM in the United Way conference/training room.
Refreshments will be provided for attendees. All our Board Builder sessions offered through the Nonprofit Network are FREE for members and this workshop is also FREE for all United Way of Danville Pittsylvania County supported agencies.
