SUMMARY:Racial Equity Institute Groundwater Training
DESCRIPTION:Register\nWhat is the Groundwater Approach? \nThe groundwater metaphor is designed to help practitioners at all levels internalize the reality that we live in a racially structured society\, and that is what causes racial inequity. With this in mind\, the groundwater metaphor shifts the focus away from the view of racism as personal bigotry and bias and to a historical\, cultural\, and structural analysis of racism. Participants will leave the training with an understanding of how systems produce unjust and inequitable outcomes\, and will thus be better prepared to work for change. The groundwater metaphor is based on three observations: \n\nRacial inequity looks the same across systems\nSocio-economic difference does not explain racial inequity\nInequities are caused by systems\, regardless of people’s culture or behavior\n\nThis workshop will consist of a beginning informational session and a subsequent discussion session. Lunch will be provided. Register here. \nJoin us to collectively work for change by participating with us. All are welcome. \nThis event is a collaboration between the Dan River Region Health Collaborative’s Health Equity Task Force\, the Dan River Nonprofit Network\, the Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Southside\, and the Center for Community Engagement and Career Competitiveness.

SUMMARY:Financial Leadership in Practice
DESCRIPTION:FLIP (Financial Leadership in Practice) brings teams together to strengthen the link between financial process and community impact. \nThis national financial capacity program for nonprofits is being brought to our area! With each registration\, TWO members of your team get 20+ hours of instruction and professional development with tools and customized templates built in. FLIP (Financial Leadership in Practice) brings leadership teams together to learn and develop strategies that strengthen the link between financial process and community impact. Over the course of a 2-day workshop and two follow-up tutorials with consultant Justin Pollock of OrgForward\, leadership teams explore frameworks\, tools\, and plans that foster stronger conversations among board and staff. \nIn this course participants will: \n— Learn to tie the financial\, programmatic\, operational\, and leadership efforts of the organization together to develop a richer understanding of the organization’s impact to strengthen how financial information is used to support mission-focused decision making. \n— Review strategies that ensure that organizational leaders account for and allocate resources to effectively fulfill mission today while also reinforcing sustainability moving forward. \n— Work with their leadership team and other peers to develop strategies for implementing change\, to strengthen the financial systems\, processes\, and communications that support organizational success. \n— Develop a Financial Leadership Action Plan throughout the seminar\, leaving with clear action items and/or next steps to take within the organization(s) they represent \nThis in-depth program is for leadership teams of at least 2 individuals (board members\, executive directors\, senior finance\, and program leadership) who are seeking to clarify fiduciary responsibilities\, create budget processes that are engaging and support sustainability\, align financial architecture and systems to outcomes\, effectively report and communicate for decision making\, and understand and mitigate risk. Registration is limited to fifteen organizations. \nFLIP consists of two full-day workshops and two separate two-hour tutorials. The full-day workshops will take place April 28th and 29th\, 2022 and lunch/snacks will be included. The two-hour tutorials will be held virtual on May 6th and May 13th and will be recorded. \nThis program is offered with support from the Community Foundation of the Dan River Region; thank you! \nClick Here to Register\nRegistration\nTo register for this series we ask you to “Pay What You Can” – we understand that our region has many organizations and passionate people that may not always have access to professional development funds for our workshops. We hope to help reduce these barriers whenever possible. Any workshop fees you would like to pay will help equip the Nonprofit Network to continue our capacity building work to support a vibrant social impact sector in our communities. \nYour purchase will include entry for two representatives to the intensive two-day workshop and both tool sessions. You will also be provided breakfast snacks and coffee/tea\, lunch\, and afternoon snacks. The suggested amount is $100/ticket for members and $150/ticket for non-members. See our Member Directory here for a full list of our member organizations and individuals. Note that the amount you choose will be classified as a program fee for these services to attend the workshop\, and is not a tax deductible donation. Each registration allows 2 representatives to attend; additional attendees may be allowed if space is available – contact us at evelyn@danrivernonprofits.org to make arrangements. \nNote: If you want to attend this program but need to be invoiced\, or would prefer to pay via cash or check\, please contact us – we can easily accommodate you!

SUMMARY:Reinvent Impact
DESCRIPTION:Building strong organizations through collaboration and strategic partnerships. \nNonprofit organizations face unprecedented challenges and opportunities as they look to the future. The Reinvent Impact workshops are the first phase in a unique capacity building program dedicated to raising awareness\, enhancing skills and fostering relationships that will help the Dan River Region’s nonprofit sector build partnerships that accelerate impact and support sustainability. \nThe workshops\, presented by Scott Cotenoff and Onuka Ibe of La Piana Consulting\, a national leader in strategic restructuring\, will discuss the wide range of partnership options available and the skills that lead nonprofits to succeed in collaboration. A panel of local organizations will also share their experience participating in a formal collaboration or strategic restructuring. The event will wrap up with a Q&A session and instructions about how to participate in the next phase of the program. \nThree dates and times are available throughout the next three months and each will cover the same content: 7/21\, 8/19\, and 10/17 – all held virtually from 3pm to 5pm. We encourage participation from all levels of an organization. If your organization is structured with a board and staff\, we highly encourage board AND staff members to attend. \nRegister\nReinvent Impact is a partnership between the Nonprofit Network\, Healthy Places by Design and the Danville Regional Foundation. \n— \nReinvent Impact is organized in three phases. \nPhase 1 will include three opportunities (July\, August & October) to attend the virtual workshop\, which will provide a general introduction to strategic restructuring and the possibilities for collaboration\, joint ventures\, back office consolidations\, mergers and other partnerships to strengthen your work. Attendance at one of the workshops is required to move on to Phase 2. \nPhase 2 will include an application process\, which will open after the first workshop is complete on July 21st. Each participant in phase 2 will complete an assessment process where\, working with a La Piana consultant\, they examine the needs\, desires\, concerns\, and opportunities that might lead them to pursue a collaboration or strategic partnership process with one or more organizations. At the end of Phase 2\, participating organizations will have a clear sense of their readiness for collaboration or strategic restructuring and will know whether they want to proceed with further exploration. \nPhase 3 will provide technical assistance and possible funding to a limited number of groups to explore\, negotiate and formalize the partnership\, as well as how to make the partnership successful – accelerating impact\, testing innovative strategies and strengthening organizational culture within your new collaboration.

SUMMARY:Virginia Nonprofit Virtual Town Hall
DESCRIPTION:The Nonprofit Network and other nonprofit capacity builder partners across the state have joined together to host a Virginia Nonprofit Virtual Town Hall with U.S. Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner to address top issues for nonprofits during COVID-19. This follows our collective Letter to the Virginia Congressional Delegation last month for which we garnered over 100 endorsements statewide. The Senators will give their perspective on what’s working\, what’s not\, and what’s still needed to support nonprofits and their government partners to be as responsive as possible to the communities they serve. We’ve gathered a list of the most pressing and relevant questions across our nonprofit networks that we’ll then present to the Senators\, and you’ll also have the opportunity to submit a question when registering. \nVirginia nonprofits\, funders\, and community partners are welcomed and encouraged to join in this statewide advocacy effort! Registration is required and space is limited to 500 participants. A recording of the Virtual Town Hall will be made available for later viewing. \nWhat: Virginia Nonprofit Virtual Town Hall with Senators Warner & Kaine\nWhen: Monday\, June 22nd 1:30-2:30pm \n\nLink: Register\n

The Nonprofit Network is partnering with River District Consulting to host a regular virtual forum called the Good Gab\, a facilitated discussion space to support and learn from one other while getting connected with helpful tools & resources. \nThe third forum\, scheduled for May 22nd from 3:30–4:30PM\, will be focused generally on the challenges of funding our mission work during times of disruption. Bring your ideas and share for group brainstorming and feedback! SUMMARY:CANCELED: SERVE365 Community Resource Fair 2020
DESCRIPTION:As we all know now\, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a rather large disruption to not only community events\, but to our daily lives as well. In compliance with the restrictions put into effect by Governor Northam the 2020 Festival in the Park has been cancelled. The Dan River Nonprofit Network is committed to supporting organizations like yours and making the community aware of the valuable services and resources they provide. While the SERVE365: Community Resource Fair won’t be able to happen in person this year\, we are very interested to see how we can all come together and find a way\, if possible\, to bring this important information to an even broader audience in a digital format. \nWe’re not sure what that will look like as of right now. It may look like teaching organizational leaders and staff how to better utilize the SERVE365 platform to increase volunteer recruitment. It might involve organizational spotlights that highlight how you are helping to service our community during this time. We look forward to coming together with you and other area organizations to see how much interest there would be in providing an alternate version of the Resource Fair and brainstorming ideas to make it successful. \nIf you have any questions\, concerns\, or would like to express interest in our idea don’t hesitate to reach out to us at kellie@danrivernonprofits.org \n\nJoin us for the third annual SERVE365 Community Resource Fair hosted by the Dan River Nonprofit Network at the Festival in the Park! This is an opportunity to learn about the resources in our community and check out how you can engage with local nonprofits to support causes you are passionate about: http://www.serve365.org/ \nWe are excited to have many different organizations represented this year\, and hope you’ll join us to help make the fair a fun and successful event! Nonprofit agencies that are interested in hosting a table\, please contact us via email at: kellie@danrivernonprofits.org \nThe required participation request form for nonprofits/community organizations can be accessed here: https://danrivernonprofits.org/serve365fair2020/

SUMMARY:Investment Connection - Community Reinvestment Act
DESCRIPTION:The Nonprofit Network is hosting the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond on an April 23rd webinar and invites you to learn more about the Community Reinvestment Act for nonprofits and the Richmond Fed’s Investment Connection program. This program will create a platform for regional funders to hear from organizations seeking funding to support low- and moderate-income individuals and distressed and underserved communities. Investment Connection will solicit funding proposals from community and economic development organizations in Southside Virginia\, as well as Central and Hampton Roads regions\, between March 30th to May 1st. In June\, the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond will bring together funders to hear pitches from the top grantee proposals and potentially connect these projects with funding. \nOrganizations with projects deemed eligible under the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) may submit community and economic development projects through a Request for Proposal process. Organizations may submit multiple projects for consideration\, but only one project per CRA specified category. \nTypical issues addressed include\, but are not limited to: \nAsset building/financial education\nCommunity facilities\nSmall business development/micro lending\nHealthy neighborhoods/affordable housing\nWorkforce development \nWe encourage nonprofits to join us to hear opportunities to bring more support to our region. We estimate the session will last for about 30-45 minutes. For more information on the program contact: Rich.InvestmentConnection@rich.frb.org \nThis event is free\, but does require registration: \nRegister
