DRF fundamentally believes in the power of collaboration to transform our region. They are committed to supporting the structures\, networks and connections that lift up community voices\, bring people together to tackle our communities’ challenges and ultimately make this a great place to live. This work doesn’t happen without dedicated people like you who work tirelessly to make a difference in our region. Many members of our community are already forming innovative collaborations to create change\, with the understanding that no one person\, organization\, or even system can make the changes we want to see alone. \nWith that in mind\, they will be recruiting for a fourth cohort of Collaboration Lab\, a ten-month opportunity to come together with other regional leaders from a variety of disciplines to share and discover the best strategies for creating and strengthening collaborative networks. \nThe Collaboration Lab is designed as a learning journey to: \n\nBuild cross-sector relationships\,\nEnhance collaborative leadership skills\,\nPractice innovative approaches and\nUncover strategies for meaningfully engaging people in a sustained collaboration.\n\nThe program will include the opportunity to complete a planning process for a new collaboration or enhance an existing collaborative effort\, with the help of national experts and local peers. Participants will emerge from the program with a deeper understanding of the ways we can implement the most impactful strategies within our context for change and join the growing network of local ambassadors for collaboration.

SUMMARY:Racial Equity Institute Groundwater Training
DESCRIPTION:Register\nWhat is the Groundwater Approach? \nThe groundwater metaphor is designed to help practitioners at all levels internalize the reality that we live in a racially structured society\, and that is what causes racial inequity. With this in mind\, the groundwater metaphor shifts the focus away from the view of racism as personal bigotry and bias and to a historical\, cultural\, and structural analysis of racism. Participants will leave the training with an understanding of how systems produce unjust and inequitable outcomes\, and will thus be better prepared to work for change. The groundwater metaphor is based on three observations: \n\nRacial inequity looks the same across systems\nSocio-economic difference does not explain racial inequity\nInequities are caused by systems\, regardless of people’s culture or behavior\n\nThis workshop will consist of a beginning informational session and a subsequent discussion session. Lunch will be provided. Register here. \nJoin us to collectively work for change by participating with us. All are welcome. \nThis event is a collaboration between the Dan River Region Health Collaborative’s Health Equity Task Force\, the Dan River Nonprofit Network\, the Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Southside\, and the Center for Community Engagement and Career Competitiveness.
