SUMMARY:Groundwater Training - Racial Equity Institute
DESCRIPTION:This participatory presentation examines characteristics of modern-day structural racial inequity using stories and data. \nWhat is the Groundwater Approach? \nThe Groundwater metaphor is designed to help practitioners at all levels internalize the reality that we live in a racially structured society\, and that is what causes racial inequity. The metaphor is based on three observations: \n1. Racial inequity looks the same across systems \n2. Socio-economic difference does not explain racial inequity \n3. Inequities are caused by systems\, regardless of people’s culture or behavior \nWhat to expect:\n \n— Light breakfast & refreshments (provided) \n— Morning informational session \n— Lunch (provided) \n— Afternoon discussion sessions \nJoin us to collectively work for change by participating with us. All are welcome. \nRegister\nThis event is a collaborative partnership between The Health Collaborative\, Danville Pittsylvania Chamber of Commerce\, Dan River Nonprofit Network\, History United\, Middle Border Forward\, and Opportunity Neighborhoods. \nQuestions? Contact Evelyn Riley\, info@danrivernonprofits.org or 434-792-3700 ext. 226

SUMMARY:Fundamental Friday: National Farmworker Jobs Program
DESCRIPTION:Join us in January for a presentation from the Telamon Corporation on the National Farmworker Jobs Program (NFJP). This program partners with community organizations and state agencies to counter the chronic unemployment and underemployment experienced by seasonal and migrant farmworkers who depend primarily on jobs in agricultural labor performed across the country. \nIn addition\, NFJP partners with state monitor advocates to provide services to farmworkers and their families working in agriculture employment. If you work with organizations and/or individuals who may currently or in the past worked in the farming and agricultural industry this program will demonstrate how they may be eligible for assistance and additional opportunities for them to succeed.

SUMMARY:Data Collection & Reporting Series
DESCRIPTION:This workshop series blends program evaluation with statistics and graphic design\, so you’re not only collecting meaningful data but also reporting it in a meaningful way. Expensive tools to create graphics and reports exist; but in this three-part series we will take advantage of the most accessible software to learn best practices in data collection and reporting. Join us for this HANDS ON series that gets you in the classroom with your own computer workstation. \n \nThis session will be presented by Tracy Mallard\, an applied researcher with a passion for community and education development\, who has over ten years of experience working with program evaluation\, with a specialization in K-12 education. Tracy holds her Master’s of Public Health from the University of Tennessee where she concentrated in epidemiology and community health and is currently pursuing her doctorate. Tracy is an active member of the American Evaluation Society\, Eastern Evaluation Research Society\, and Virginia Public Health Association. \n  \n  \n  \nSchedule: \n\nFebruary 6th\, 1-5PM — Part I: Collecting Meaningful Data for your Organization\nFebruary 13th\, 1-5PM — Part II: Displaying your Data to Tell a Story\nFebruary 20th\, 1-4PM — Part III: Writing Reports your Audience Actually Wants to Read\n\nPart I: Collecting Meaningful Data for your Organization – Program evaluation can provide accountability for your organization\, but its ultimate goal should be continuous improvement of service to your clients. In this workshop\, we will walk through how to determine your information needs\, how to match information needs to data collection methods\, and what metrics are most appropriate for your reporting needs. \nPart II: Displaying your Data to Tell a Story – As evaluators\, data collection proves unnecessary if we are unable to simply and effectively communicate our results. In this workshop\, you will learn how to brand your organization with each graphic\, choose the most appropriate charts based on your data\, and polish your graphics so your results shine. You will leave with a custom style guide\, chart templates\, and best practices for creating beautiful visualizations long after the workshop ends. \nPart III: Writing Reports your Audience Actually Wants to Read – Are your annual reports written and designed within your organization? Could they use a refresh\, but you don’t have the budget to hire a graphic designer? We are not all design experts\, but there are a few principles that everyone\, from CEO to students\, should know. This workshop continues the conversation around effectively communicating your results\, while proving you don’t have to hire a designer to create beautiful work.  Your annual reports should be an exhibition of the great work you’ve done; so join us in learning how to design a compelling report that everyone will want to read. \nYou can book each class individually\, but we highly encourage participating and committing to the full series to gain the most benefit. We have a 10% discount incentive for bundling and an additional 10% discount for early bird registrations – use the code QUICK during ticket selection. Purchase by January 23rd at 11:59PM to get these additional savings! If you would like to purchase through cash\, check\, or need an invoice just contact our office at info@danrivernonprofits.org or 434-792-3700 ext. 226\n \nRegister
