SUMMARY:Racial Equity Institute Groundwater Training
DESCRIPTION:Register\nWhat is the Groundwater Approach? \nThe groundwater metaphor is designed to help practitioners at all levels internalize the reality that we live in a racially structured society\, and that is what causes racial inequity. With this in mind\, the groundwater metaphor shifts the focus away from the view of racism as personal bigotry and bias and to a historical\, cultural\, and structural analysis of racism. Participants will leave the training with an understanding of how systems produce unjust and inequitable outcomes\, and will thus be better prepared to work for change. The groundwater metaphor is based on three observations: \n\nRacial inequity looks the same across systems\nSocio-economic difference does not explain racial inequity\nInequities are caused by systems\, regardless of people’s culture or behavior\n\nThis workshop will consist of a beginning informational session and a subsequent discussion session. Lunch will be provided. Register here. \nJoin us to collectively work for change by participating with us. All are welcome. \nThis event is a collaboration between the Dan River Region Health Collaborative’s Health Equity Task Force\, the Dan River Nonprofit Network\, the Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Southside\, and the Center for Community Engagement and Career Competitiveness.

Epstein Clark Consulting and the Dan River Nonprofit Network are hosting a three-session virtual grant writing series. This course is meant for many levels of organizations/projects including those that have volunteers\, board members\, or staff (with other duties) that are responsible for writing grants (or would like to learn!). These sessions will provide the necessary tools for participants to confidently complete the grant writing process from beginning from beginning to end. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSession 1: Preparing to Write Grants – May 13th \, 3:00PM – 4:30PM \n\nGrant Research\nBuilding Relationships with Funders\nYour Grants Document Toolkit\n\nSession 2: Writing the Grant – May 20th\, 3:00PM – 4:30PM \n\nStorytelling\nBudgets\nTying it All Together\n\nSession 3: You’ve Submitted the Grant…Now What? – May 27th\, 3:00PM – 4:30PM \n\nContinued Relationship Building\nReporting\n\nSessions will be held on Zoom\, and meeting information will be sent to all registrants prior to the classes. \n\n\nTo register for this series we ask you to “Pay What You Can” – we understand that our region has many organizations and passionate people that may not always have access to professional development funds for our workshops. We hope to help reduce these barriers whenever possible. Any workshop fees you would like to pay will help equip the Nonprofit Network to continue our capacity building work to support a vibrant social impact sector in our communities. \nRegister\nYour purchase will include entry to all three workshops in the series (May 13th\, 20th\, 27th). The suggested amount is $75/ticket for members and $100/ticket for non-members. See our Member Directory here for a full list of our member organizations and individuals. Note that the amount you choose will be classified as a program fee for these services to attend the workshop\, and is not a tax deductible donation. If you would prefer to pay via invoice/check please email evelyn@danrivernonprofits.org instead of completing this online registration/payment. To purchase multiple registrations\, please fill out the registration for each participant\, or email evelyn@danrivernonprofits.org with any questions.

SUMMARY:Reinvent Impact
DESCRIPTION:Building strong organizations through collaboration and strategic partnerships. \nNonprofit organizations face unprecedented challenges and opportunities as they look to the future. The Reinvent Impact workshops are the first phase in a unique capacity building program dedicated to raising awareness\, enhancing skills and fostering relationships that will help the Dan River Region’s nonprofit sector build partnerships that accelerate impact and support sustainability. \nThe workshops\, presented by Scott Cotenoff and Onuka Ibe of La Piana Consulting\, a national leader in strategic restructuring\, will discuss the wide range of partnership options available and the skills that lead nonprofits to succeed in collaboration. A panel of local organizations will also share their experience participating in a formal collaboration or strategic restructuring. The event will wrap up with a Q&A session and instructions about how to participate in the next phase of the program. \nThree dates and times are available throughout the next three months and each will cover the same content: 7/21\, 8/19\, and 10/17 – all held virtually from 3pm to 5pm. We encourage participation from all levels of an organization. If your organization is structured with a board and staff\, we highly encourage board AND staff members to attend. \nRegister\nReinvent Impact is a partnership between the Nonprofit Network\, Healthy Places by Design and the Danville Regional Foundation. \n— \nReinvent Impact is organized in three phases. \nPhase 1 will include three opportunities (July\, August & October) to attend the virtual workshop\, which will provide a general introduction to strategic restructuring and the possibilities for collaboration\, joint ventures\, back office consolidations\, mergers and other partnerships to strengthen your work. Attendance at one of the workshops is required to move on to Phase 2. \nPhase 2 will include an application process\, which will open after the first workshop is complete on July 21st. Each participant in phase 2 will complete an assessment process where\, working with a La Piana consultant\, they examine the needs\, desires\, concerns\, and opportunities that might lead them to pursue a collaboration or strategic partnership process with one or more organizations. At the end of Phase 2\, participating organizations will have a clear sense of their readiness for collaboration or strategic restructuring and will know whether they want to proceed with further exploration. \nPhase 3 will provide technical assistance and possible funding to a limited number of groups to explore\, negotiate and formalize the partnership\, as well as how to make the partnership successful – accelerating impact\, testing innovative strategies and strengthening organizational culture within your new collaboration.

SUMMARY:Groundwater Training - Racial Equity Institute
DESCRIPTION:This participatory presentation examines characteristics of modern-day structural racial inequity using stories and data. \nWhat is the Groundwater Approach? \nThe Groundwater metaphor is designed to help practitioners at all levels internalize the reality that we live in a racially structured society\, and that is what causes racial inequity. The metaphor is based on three observations: \n1. Racial inequity looks the same across systems \n2. Socio-economic difference does not explain racial inequity \n3. Inequities are caused by systems\, regardless of people’s culture or behavior \nWhat to expect:\n \n— Light breakfast & refreshments (provided) \n— Morning informational session \n— Lunch (provided) \n— Afternoon discussion sessions \nJoin us to collectively work for change by participating with us. All are welcome. \nRegister\nThis event is a collaborative partnership between The Health Collaborative\, Danville Pittsylvania Chamber of Commerce\, Dan River Nonprofit Network\, History United\, Middle Border Forward\, and Opportunity Neighborhoods. \nQuestions? SUMMARY:Fundamental Friday: National Farmworker Jobs Program
DESCRIPTION:Join us in January for a presentation from the Telamon Corporation on the National Farmworker Jobs Program (NFJP). This program partners with community organizations and state agencies to counter the chronic unemployment and underemployment experienced by seasonal and migrant farmworkers who depend primarily on jobs in agricultural labor performed across the country. \nIn addition\, NFJP partners with state monitor advocates to provide services to farmworkers and their families working in agriculture employment. If you work with organizations and/or individuals who may currently or in the past worked in the farming and agricultural industry this program will demonstrate how they may be eligible for assistance and additional opportunities for them to succeed.
