SUMMARY:Grant Writing: Prep\, Proposal\, and Process
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nThis grant writing workshop is a “crash course” covering multiple aspects of writing and managing your proposals! Epstein Clark Consulting and the Dan River Nonprofit Network are hosting a three-session virtual grant writing series. This course is meant for many levels of organizations/projects including those that have volunteers\, board members\, or staff (with other duties) that are responsible for writing grants (or would like to learn!). These sessions will provide the necessary tools for participants to confidently complete the grant writing process from beginning from beginning to end. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSession 1: Preparing to Write Grants – May 13th \, 3:00PM – 4:30PM \n\nGrant Research\nBuilding Relationships with Funders\nYour Grants Document Toolkit\n\nSession 2: Writing the Grant – May 20th\, 3:00PM – 4:30PM \n\nStorytelling\nBudgets\nTying it All Together\n\nSession 3: You’ve Submitted the Grant…Now What? – May 27th\, 3:00PM – 4:30PM \n\nContinued Relationship Building\nReporting\n\nSessions will be held on Zoom\, and meeting information will be sent to all registrants prior to the classes. \n\n\nTo register for this series we ask you to “Pay What You Can” – we understand that our region has many organizations and passionate people that may not always have access to professional development funds for our workshops. We hope to help reduce these barriers whenever possible. Any workshop fees you would like to pay will help equip the Nonprofit Network to continue our capacity building work to support a vibrant social impact sector in our communities. \nRegister\nYour purchase will include entry to all three workshops in the series (May 13th\, 20th\, 27th). The suggested amount is $75/ticket for members and $100/ticket for non-members. See our Member Directory here for a full list of our member organizations and individuals. Note that the amount you choose will be classified as a program fee for these services to attend the workshop\, and is not a tax deductible donation. If you would prefer to pay via invoice/check please email evelyn@danrivernonprofits.org instead of completing this online registration/payment. To purchase multiple registrations\, please fill out the registration for each participant\, or email evelyn@danrivernonprofits.org with any questions.

SUMMARY:Reinvent Impact
DESCRIPTION:Building strong organizations through collaboration and strategic partnerships. \nNonprofit organizations face unprecedented challenges and opportunities as they look to the future. The Reinvent Impact workshops are the first phase in a unique capacity building program dedicated to raising awareness\, enhancing skills and fostering relationships that will help the Dan River Region’s nonprofit sector build partnerships that accelerate impact and support sustainability. \nThe workshops\, presented by Scott Cotenoff and Onuka Ibe of La Piana Consulting\, a national leader in strategic restructuring\, will discuss the wide range of partnership options available and the skills that lead nonprofits to succeed in collaboration. A panel of local organizations will also share their experience participating in a formal collaboration or strategic restructuring. The event will wrap up with a Q&A session and instructions about how to participate in the next phase of the program. \nThree dates and times are available throughout the next three months and each will cover the same content: 7/21\, 8/19\, and 10/17 – all held virtually from 3pm to 5pm. We encourage participation from all levels of an organization. If your organization is structured with a board and staff\, we highly encourage board AND staff members to attend. \nRegister\nReinvent Impact is a partnership between the Nonprofit Network\, Healthy Places by Design and the Danville Regional Foundation. \n— \nReinvent Impact is organized in three phases. \nPhase 1 will include three opportunities (July\, August & October) to attend the virtual workshop\, which will provide a general introduction to strategic restructuring and the possibilities for collaboration\, joint ventures\, back office consolidations\, mergers and other partnerships to strengthen your work. Attendance at one of the workshops is required to move on to Phase 2. \nPhase 2 will include an application process\, which will open after the first workshop is complete on July 21st. Each participant in phase 2 will complete an assessment process where\, working with a La Piana consultant\, they examine the needs\, desires\, concerns\, and opportunities that might lead them to pursue a collaboration or strategic partnership process with one or more organizations. At the end of Phase 2\, participating organizations will have a clear sense of their readiness for collaboration or strategic restructuring and will know whether they want to proceed with further exploration. \nPhase 3 will provide technical assistance and possible funding to a limited number of groups to explore\, negotiate and formalize the partnership\, as well as how to make the partnership successful – accelerating impact\, testing innovative strategies and strengthening organizational culture within your new collaboration.

SUMMARY:Virginia Nonprofit Virtual Town Hall
DESCRIPTION:The Nonprofit Network and other nonprofit capacity builder partners across the state have joined together to host a Virginia Nonprofit Virtual Town Hall with U.S. Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner to address top issues for nonprofits during COVID-19. This follows our collective Letter to the Virginia Congressional Delegation last month for which we garnered over 100 endorsements statewide. The Senators will give their perspective on what’s working\, what’s not\, and what’s still needed to support nonprofits and their government partners to be as responsive as possible to the communities they serve. We’ve gathered a list of the most pressing and relevant questions across our nonprofit networks that we’ll then present to the Senators\, and you’ll also have the opportunity to submit a question when registering. \nVirginia nonprofits\, funders\, and community partners are welcomed and encouraged to join in this statewide advocacy effort! Registration is required and space is limited to 500 participants. A recording of the Virtual Town Hall will be made available for later viewing. \nWhat: Virginia Nonprofit Virtual Town Hall with Senators Warner & Kaine\nWhen: Monday\, June 22nd 1:30-2:30pm \n\nLink: Register\n

The Nonprofit Network is partnering with River District Consulting to host a regular virtual forum called the Good Gab\, a facilitated discussion space to support and learn from one other while getting connected with helpful tools & resources. \nThe third forum\, scheduled for May 22nd from 3:30–4:30PM\, will be focused generally on the challenges of funding our mission work during times of disruption. Bring your ideas and share for group brainstorming and feedback! SUMMARY:CANCELED: SERVE365 Community Resource Fair 2020
DESCRIPTION:As we all know now\, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a rather large disruption to not only community events\, but to our daily lives as well. In compliance with the restrictions put into effect by Governor Northam the 2020 Festival in the Park has been cancelled. The Dan River Nonprofit Network is committed to supporting organizations like yours and making the community aware of the valuable services and resources they provide. While the SERVE365: Community Resource Fair won’t be able to happen in person this year\, we are very interested to see how we can all come together and find a way\, if possible\, to bring this important information to an even broader audience in a digital format. \nWe’re not sure what that will look like as of right now. It may look like teaching organizational leaders and staff how to better utilize the SERVE365 platform to increase volunteer recruitment. It might involve organizational spotlights that highlight how you are helping to service our community during this time. We look forward to coming together with you and other area organizations to see how much interest there would be in providing an alternate version of the Resource Fair and brainstorming ideas to make it successful. \nIf you have any questions\, concerns\, or would like to express interest in our idea don’t hesitate to reach out to us at kellie@danrivernonprofits.org \n\nJoin us for the third annual SERVE365 Community Resource Fair hosted by the Dan River Nonprofit Network at the Festival in the Park! This is an opportunity to learn about the resources in our community and check out how you can engage with local nonprofits to support causes you are passionate about: http://www.serve365.org/ \nWe are excited to have many different organizations represented this year\, and hope you’ll join us to help make the fair a fun and successful event! Nonprofit agencies that are interested in hosting a table\, please contact us via email at: kellie@danrivernonprofits.org \nThe required participation request form for nonprofits/community organizations can be accessed here: https://danrivernonprofits.org/serve365fair2020/

SUMMARY:Groundwater Training - Racial Equity Institute
DESCRIPTION:This participatory presentation examines characteristics of modern-day structural racial inequity using stories and data. \nWhat is the Groundwater Approach? \nThe Groundwater metaphor is designed to help practitioners at all levels internalize the reality that we live in a racially structured society\, and that is what causes racial inequity. The metaphor is based on three observations: \n1. Racial inequity looks the same across systems \n2. Socio-economic difference does not explain racial inequity \n3. Inequities are caused by systems\, regardless of people’s culture or behavior \nWhat to expect:\n \n— Light breakfast & refreshments (provided) \n— Morning informational session \n— Lunch (provided) \n— Afternoon discussion sessions \nJoin us to collectively work for change by participating with us. All are welcome. \nRegister\nThis event is a collaborative partnership between The Health Collaborative\, Danville Pittsylvania Chamber of Commerce\, Dan River Nonprofit Network\, History United\, Middle Border Forward\, and Opportunity Neighborhoods. \nQuestions? Contact Evelyn Riley\, info@danrivernonprofits.org or 434-792-3700 ext. 226

SUMMARY:Fundamental Friday: National Farmworker Jobs Program
DESCRIPTION:Join us in January for a presentation from the Telamon Corporation on the National Farmworker Jobs Program (NFJP). This program partners with community organizations and state agencies to counter the chronic unemployment and underemployment experienced by seasonal and migrant farmworkers who depend primarily on jobs in agricultural labor performed across the country. \nIn addition\, NFJP partners with state monitor advocates to provide services to farmworkers and their families working in agriculture employment. If you work with organizations and/or individuals who may currently or in the past worked in the farming and agricultural industry this program will demonstrate how they may be eligible for assistance and additional opportunities for them to succeed.

SUMMARY:2019 Volunteer of the Year Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our end of year celebration event of all the great work our local nonprofits and volunteers accomplish! This year’s event will be held the evening of December 16th\, 2018 from 5:30-7PM. \nThe Volunteer of the Year program starts by having a period of time for community nominations of individuals they believe embody the spirit of volunteerism and who give back to their community through their time and efforts. After the nomination period concludes\, there is a community wide vote and a committee selection process to determine the Volunteer of the Year award recipient winners. The selected volunteers will then have a gift package donated in their name to the local nonprofit of their choice. In order to emphasize the gift all volunteers give\, the event is also a recognition ceremony for all nominees\, and a time to recognize the nonprofit organizations themselves for the impact they have on our region. \n Visit our dedicated Volunteer of the Year 2019 Page to learn more\, nominate\, and vote!\n
