DESCRIPTION:Join us in January for a presentation from the Telamon Corporation on the National Farmworker Jobs Program (NFJP). This program partners with community organizations and state agencies to counter the chronic unemployment and underemployment experienced by seasonal and migrant farmworkers who depend primarily on jobs in agricultural labor performed across the country. \nIn addition\, NFJP partners with state monitor advocates to provide services to farmworkers and their families working in agriculture employment. If you work with organizations and/or individuals who may currently or in the past worked in the farming and agricultural industry this program will demonstrate how they may be eligible for assistance and additional opportunities for them to succeed.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for our end of year celebration event of all the great work our local nonprofits and volunteers accomplish! This year’s event will be held the evening of December 16th\, 2018 from 5:30-7PM. \nThe Volunteer of the Year program starts by having a period of time for community nominations of individuals they believe embody the spirit of volunteerism and who give back to their community through their time and efforts. After the nomination period concludes\, there is a community wide vote and a committee selection process to determine the Volunteer of the Year award recipient winners. The selected volunteers will then have a gift package donated in their name to the local nonprofit of their choice. DESCRIPTION:Rent or electric bill? Food or prescription drug? For too many hardworking households\, impossible decisions such as these are a way of life. When families and individuals are forced to make these difficult choices\, the entire community faces consequences. Our families\, neighbors\, and colleagues who work hard\, earn above the Federal Poverty Level\, but are still victims of financial hardship are included in the ALICE report. ALICE stands for “Asset Limited\, Income Constrained\, Employed” and is a part of a movement to change the national dialogue about financial hardship and stability. The ALICE project provides a framework and language for stakeholders to reassess public and corporate policies and implement changes that improve lives in their communities. This year’s event will be hosted by Ballad Brewing in the heart of the River District on the evening of December 17th\, 2018. \nThe Volunteer of the Year program starts by having a period of time for community nominations of individuals they believe embody the spirit of volunteerism and who give back to their community through their time and efforts. After the nomination period concludes\, there is a community wide vote and a committee selection process to determine the Volunteer of the Year award recipient winners. The selected volunteers will then have a gift package donated in their name to the local nonprofit of their choice. DESCRIPTION:Join the Dan River Nonprofit Network for a screening of the webinar “Systems Change with an Equity Lens: Community Interventions that Shift Power and Center Race” hosted by Management Assistance Group (MAG) and Building Movement Project (BMP). This 90-minute webinar is designed for systems change practitioners who want to lift up the experience and voice of people doing frontline work. Guest speakers Reverend Joan C. Ross of the North End Woodward Community Coalition and Lauren Padilla-Valverde\, Senior Program Manager at The California Endowment will share their experiences advancing complex systems change that centers racial equity. \nBy the end of the webinar\, participants will have a shared understanding of: \n1. The ways in which mainstream approaches to systems change fall short;\n2. A framework — developed by people of color\, women\, and leaders across the justice field — for pursuing systems change with an equity lens\, with case studies and storytelling from practitioners;\n3. Pathways for developing a systems change and equity mindset\, and how to measure these efforts.
